Post Offices In The Unassigned Lands

Dear fellow Oklahoma Postal History Society members,

This year at OKPEX I will be giving a talk on the post offices established in 1889 in the Unassigned Lands as a result of the land run. I will also be exhibiting this material.

I have yet to see the following list of covers and I am hopeful you can help me obtain them or, at least, provide a scan of these so that I may be more authoritative and complete in my presentation. All of the following post office names were used in more than one county (except Idelah) so please be careful to note the year of your cover.

Will You please look for the following covers during the dates listed below for me and report if you have them or know where they may be located?  I know some of these existed in 1965 because Signorelli and Cardwell listed some of them.

Idela                   1889-91

Cimarron City     1889-94

Lincoln                1889-94

Lisbon                 1889

Harrison              1889-90

Rock Island         1889-98

Many thanks for your efforts in helping with this. I am hoping to hear from you soon.

Also, I will be giving a program updating more complete information on RFD and 20th Century Fancy Cancels from Oklahoma at this next Tuesday’s (Feb 14, 2017) meeting.  I am looking forward to seeing you then.

Joe Crosby To Speak At TEXPEX

Joe Crosby will be presenting at TEXPEX later this month.  His talk, which will be of great interest to those of us in Oklahoma, is scheduled for 1 PM on Friday, February 24th.

His talk centers around what he calls “Postal History Across The Red River”.

He will show 3 different very intriguing covers mailed by people living in Texas – just across the Red River – who used Oklahoma Post Offices for reasons he will explain.

16 members of our club will also enter a page each in the annual “Club Competition”.

Full details about the 2017 TEXPEX can be found at:  http://www.texpex.org

OKPEX Moving To June 20-21, 2014

  OKPEX Logo 2

OKPEX IS MOVING TO JUNE AND TO MIDWEST CITY, OKLAHOMA

OKPEX 2014 is moving to JUNE since we lost our October lease on the Express Event Center (it is being sold).  The show will be held on Fri-Sat, June 20-21, 2014 at the Reed Conference Center, 5800 Will Rogers Road, Midwest City, OK 73110, located off Interstate 40, just 5 miles east of downtown Oklahoma City. Dealer and Exhibitor setup will be on Thursday June 19.  Our costs will go up slightly, but it is felt that it is better to have a nice place, with free parking, in a convenient location.   This move will give OKPEX an opportunity to attract new participants and to increase in size over the coming years.

 OKPEX NEW HOME

The Reed Conference Center, Midwest City, Okla.

This is a wonderful new facility that has a first floor room with 6000 sq. feet and 16 foot ceilings for the exhibits and the bourse.  The registration, post office, and society booths will be in the large foyer/entryway. It is all carpeted, air conditioned, modern, clean, well-lighted, and has free parking.   The Sheraton Hotel adjoins The Reed Conference Center.  It has set aside a block of rooms with either king or twin double beds at the OKPEX rate of $99.00 which includes a 50% discount on breakfast.  For reservations, call 405-455-1800, ask for reservations, and book your room at the OKPEX special rate.  There are also several other motels within 1-2 blocks of the Reed Center, all with reasonable rates.

OKPEX SHOW HOTEL

Sheraton Midwest City Hotel at the Reed Conference Center

OKPEX has designated the Sheraton Hotel as its official show hotel, and will welcome visitors to a new hospitality suite there on Thursday and Friday evenings.  The Awards Breakfast will also be held at the Sheraton on Saturday morning.    We remain committed to keeping OKPEX the friendliest stamp show in the country.     Plan now to rent a booth if you are a dealer, enter an exhibit if you are a WSP exhibitor and attend both days if you are a collector.    We expect to have 16 dealers from 6 states bringing interesting material.  Most will be our faithful dealers who have supported OKPEX for many years, but we will attract some new dealers as well with the change of date from October to June.   The third weekend in June was selected to avoid conflicts with any other WSP shows and to make it convenient for all exhibitors and collectors who want to participate.  The National Topical Stamp Show will be held the following weekend in St. Louis, MO.

We will have 115 competitive multi-frames and 10 competitive one-frame exhibits. Youth and single frame postcard exhibits can be shown in addition to these limits.  The APS jury will be Mrs. Elizabeth M. Hizey of Florida, Chief, Judge; Dr. Mark E. Banchick of New York, Judge; and Jeffrey A. Switt of Texas, Judge.

The OKOKPEX LogoPEX 2014 Grand Award winner is eligible to participate in the Champion of Champions competition at APS StampShow, Hartford, Ct. Aug 21-24, 2014. OPS LogoThe Oklahoma Philatelic Society will hold its annual meeting at OKPEX 2014.  The Oklahoma Postal History Society will hold its June program meeting at OKPEX 2014.    The local chapter of the American Topical Association will hold its 3rd OKPEX “Roundtable Meeting” and the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors will hold an “Open Forum on Exhibiting” for exhibitors and those interested in becoming exhibitors.  Any other philatelic groups who would like to hold regional or national meetings or programs at our new show venue are welcome;  contact OKPEX chairman, Joe Crosby at joecrosby@cox.net.    A marvelous separate meeting room is available right across the foyer from the OKPEX Exhibit Hall.
